Shingle Grinding
On-Site Shingle Grinding and Recycling with Smithey Environmental Services for a Sustainable Future
Smithey Environmental Services is the only company in Northeastern Oklahoma that provides mobile on-site asphalt shingle grinding and recycling. Shingle grinding is the process of converting tear-off shingles and waste shingles to produce recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) and recycled asphalt pavement (RAP). By grinding the material to a small spec, we are able to salvage the valuable sand and asphalt. This method diverts waste shingles from landfills, conserving space and reducing overall environmental impact. The success of shingle grinding relies heavily on advanced technology and equipment. As a leader in the field, Smithey Environmental uses the RotoChopper B66 Track Mounted Machine, a top-of-the-line quality machine designed specifically to handle highly abrasive materials.
Shredding up to 80 tons per hour of tear-off shingles down to ¼” minus, the B66t is ideal for our clients that need to process large volumes of waste shingles efficiently and effectively. Once the grinding is complete, we have the ability to transport the final product with our fleet of dump trailers.
Serving all of Oklahoma, North Texas, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas. For a complete and comprehensive shingle grinding operation, call us today!
Benefits of Shingle Grinding
Environmental Impact
Shingle grinding and recycling have become crucial practices in the roofing and construction industries, providing sustainable solutions for waste management while contributing positively to the environment.
Recycling shingles helps minimize the dependency on foreign oil by repurposing waste materials into new products. This practice not only conserves our natural resources but also contributes to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with shingle disposal in landfills.
Economic Viability
By recycling shingles, companies can easily create additional revenue streams. RAP can be sold and reused in various applications, such as hot mix asphalt for roads, driveways and highways. RAS is added to asphalt mixes in amounts generally under 5% to displace expensive virgin asphalt. The asphalt mix is used for driveways, parking lots and roads. By recycling, the overall expense of paving is reduced with a cost-effective solution for asphalt producers and contractors.
Construction and Roofing
Commercial and industrial roofing contractors, as well as construction companies, benefit from the use of recycled shingles. These materials can be repurposed for various construction projects, promoting sustainable building practices.
Recycling Facilities
Recycling facilities and municipal waste management programs utilize shingle grinding services to process and recycle shingles. This collaboration helps cities and towns manage their waste more effectively and promotes community-wide sustainability efforts.
Asphalt Producers
Asphalt producers incorporate recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) into their production processes, improving the cost-effectiveness and performance of their asphalt products. This practice also reduces the need for virgin materials, conserving natural resources.
Municipal and Commercial Use
Municipal recycling programs and commercial entities employ shingle grinding services to manage waste in a more sustainable way. This collaboration helps reduce landfill usage and promotes eco-friendly practices within communities.
Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs)
Materials recovery facilities (MRFs) use shingle grinders to process and sort waste shingles for recycling. These facilities play a crucial role in the recycling supply chain, ensuring that valuable materials are repurposed rather than discarded.
Measuring and Monitoring
We measure materials by the ton, providing a convenient and economically viable solution for waste management. This approach ensures an accurate tracking of recycled materials and helps our clients in optimizing their recycling efforts.
